Pa. Ranjith’s next after two biggies with Superstar Rajinikanth is a period sports drama named ‘Sarpatta Parambarai’ starring Arya, Dushara Vijayan, Pasupathy and Sanchana Natrajan. This project is the first collaboration of Arya and Pa. Ranjith. This movie is set in the 1970s to 80s and revolves around the boxing culture in North Chennai. The music is composed by Santhosh Narayanan, who composed for all the previous Pa. Ranjith’s films. The lyrics have been written by Kabilan, Arivu, and Madras Miran.

The shoot of 'Sarpetta Parambarai' was wrapped in December 2020 and a first look poster and making video from the film were released. The post-production is almost over and the latest update is that the sound mixing of the film has been completed today.

'Sarpetta Parambarai' was expected to hit the theaters in early 2021 but got delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown. Sources close to the film say that the team is eyeing a direct OTT release. This is the second OTT release for Arya after the fantasy flick Teddy which was directly released on Disney+Hotstar.

This marks the direct OTT debut for director Pa. Ranjith. Some sources say that ‘Sarpatta Parambarai’ will be released by Amazon Prime Video. We have to wait for official confirmation from the movie team regarding the release.
