Samuthirakani has been more of an actor than a filmmaker in the recent times and that has lead him to a National Award-winning performance in 'Visaranai'. While he has been busy acting in Tamil films, he has also completed directing an ambitious project 'Appa'. This is the tenth directorial of Kani, a former associate of veteran K.Balachander.
Samuthirakani has also produced 'Appa' under his Nadodigal Productions banner apart from acting in a pivotal role in the film. Musical score has been rendered by Isaignani Ilaiyaraja. The supporting cast includes 'Thambi Ramiah, Vinodhini, Namo Narayana and others.
As the title suggests, the film will be Samuthirakani's take on the role of a Father in the overall development of a child. The trailers that have released so far have struck the right chord with the audience and the unique promotional strategy of making film industry celebrities speak about their fathers has helped the film get a positive buzz.
With such a fortunate setting, 'Appa' will be hitting the screens on July 1, 2016. As 'Kabali' which was earlier touted to release on the day has been postponed many small budget films are trying to cash in on the window and 'Appa' has joined the list. Today's paper ads of 'Appa' mention the release date as July 1.
