Sabarimala Gold Theft: Former Devaswom Board President Vasu Arrested

Thiruvananthapuram, November 11, 2025 – 06:31 PM IST: In a major development in the Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple gold missing case, the former President of the Travancore Devaswom Board, Vasu, was arrested today by the Special Investigation Team (SIT). He becomes the third individual to be taken into custody in connection with the disappearance of 4 kg of gold from the temple’s dwarapalaka (gatekeeper) idols.

Earlier, Karnataka-based businessman Unnikrishnan Potti, who had undertaken the gold plating work, and former administrative officer Murari Babu were arrested following intense interrogation. The Kerala High Court-appointed SIT is actively investigating the matter, while the Devaswom Board’s Vigilance Wing has submitted its final report to the court.

The scandal has sent shockwaves through the temple administration and among devotees. The state DGP has confirmed Vasu’s arrest. Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
