A gripping story of one man’s fight to protect his home against an entire housing society is set to make its digital debut. Titled Last Man in Tower, the upcoming Hindi drama-thriller stars Manoj Bajpayee, Boman Irani and Divya Dutta in lead roles. Directed by Ben Rekhi and produced by Rana Daggubati’s Spirit Media, the film will premiere on ZEE5 on November 6, 2026.
Based on the acclaimed novel of the same name by Aravind Adiga, Last Man in Tower unfolds against the backdrop of Mumbai’s rapidly changing urban landscape. The film explores the emotional connection people share with their homes and the difficult choices they face when personal memories come into conflict with the promise of a better future.
Manoj Bajpayee plays Yogesh Mishra, a retired physics teacher living in an ageing Mumbai housing society. When the residents agree to a lucrative redevelopment proposal, Yogesh becomes the only person refusing to vacate his apartment. While his neighbours see the deal as an opportunity for a better life, he remains determined to protect the home and community he has cherished for years.
The situation takes a complicated turn with the involvement of Sangita Puri, played by Divya Dutta, whose desire to secure a better future for her special-needs son puts her in direct conflict with Yogesh. Meanwhile, Boman Irani appears as developer Dharmen Shah, who is determined to move the redevelopment project forward. As tensions escalate, relationships within the society begin to fall apart, exposing the personal interests and aspirations of its residents.
Rather than presenting the conflict as a straightforward battle between right and wrong, the film examines the motivations of every character. It explores how financial aspirations, family responsibilities and emotional attachments can change relationships and turn a once-friendly neighbourhood into a battleground.
Manoj Bajpayee is expected to bring emotional depth to the character of Yogesh, portraying the vulnerability and loneliness of a man standing by his convictions. Divya Dutta adds another emotional dimension through Sangita, while Boman Irani’s portrayal of the developer brings further complexity to the redevelopment conflict.
With its focus on urban redevelopment, middle-class aspirations, human relationships and the meaning of belonging, Last Man in Tower promises to offer a thought-provoking cinematic experience. The film raises an important question: when an entire community is ready to move forward, how far can one individual go to hold on to the past?
