Legendary singer S.P. Balasubrahmaniyam is in the intensive care unit and on life support in a private hospital in Chennai where he is undergoing rigorous treatment after getting infected by the coronavirus on August 5th. Though his condition has remained unchanged for the past couple of days it remains critical according to the hospital sources.
In an initiative of solidarity to SPB, Kollywood legends Bharathiraja, Ilayaraja, Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, A.R. Rahman and Vairamuthu are coming together for a mass prayer. The prayer for SPB to get well soon will be from their respective places by playing his songs at 6pm to 6.05 pm on August 20th to make sure his voice is heard again.
SPB has sung innumerable hit songs for both Rajini and Kamal and is connected to their stardom as an integral part. Balsubramaniam was the first friend of Bharathiraja in cinema and it was he who encouraged his dream of becoming a director and even came forward to produce his first film which did not take off for various reasons.
Similarly, through Bharathiraja, Ilayaraja became friends with SPB and the duo have given thousands of memorable songs together. Vairamuthu's first song in Tamil cienma 'Idhu Oru Ponmalai Pozhudhu' was sung by SPB and the duo maintain a longstanding friendship.
SPB has been a mentor figure to Isaipuyal A.R. Rahman too from the time he was a young boy and in later days has sung in his music too and shares a close bonding with him. Its a great gesture by these legends of Tamil cinema to join hands for their close friend which will surely make a difference to the wellbeing of the genius singer.
