Superstar Rajinikanth announced his decision to launch his own political party and said that the proposed party, whose name, flag and policies haven’t yet been made public, would contest all the 234 Assembly seats in the State as and when the Assembly polls are held.
Rajini’s announcement, made at 08:45 a.m. this morning at his Raghavendra Kalyana Mandapam in Kodambakkam (Chennai), sent his fans into delirious mood as they celebrated across the State by bursting crackers and distributing sweets as their ‘man of the masses’ had finally taken the political plunge after proving his mass power in 1995-96. Fans waited all these years for Rajini to make today’s announcement.
“I will tour the State and talk to people,” Rajini said and added that there was nothing going right in the State at present. “If I don’t do what I decided to do today, I’d be regretting in future,” he said and said he didn’t want his fans to become his party’s cadres but to become watchdogs to ensure that nothing goes wrong.
“Unlike rulers of the pre-Independence era who looted the countries they won, today’s politicians are looting their own country,” Rajini said and recalled the late Cho’s advice to him on how to handle the media. “Decision to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha polls would be made later,” Rajini said asserting that he would contest the Assembly polls (which are normally due to be held in 2021).
‘Do good, speak good and only the good will occur,” will be the party’s guiding slogan, Rajini said. Rajini also appealed to his fans not to blame/accuse other parties for the State’s present situation. Rajini’s announcement has been welcomed by his Bollywood friends Amitabh Bachchan and Anupam Kher. Kamal too joined them in wishing Rajini success in his endeavour.
