A pointsman with Central Railway, identified as Mayur Shelke, was lauded for his courage and compassion after he risked his own life to save a child at a Mumbai station. He has won the hearts of people across the country yet again after donating half of his reward money to the child and his family.

A surveillance video which was recently shared by Indian Railways showed Mayur Shelke running towards an incoming train at the Vangani station in Thane district and rescuing a six-year-old boy by lifting him on to the platform seconds before the train arrived at the spot. Railways Minister Piyush Goyal praised him for his bravery, while Central Railway’s Divisional Railway Manager and staff rewarded him with Rs 50,000 for the same. Mayur Shelke later announced that he will be donating half of his reward money to the boy he saved and his visually impaired mother.

Speaking about the kind act of generosity, Mayur Shelke reportedly informed a news agency, "I'll give half of the amount, given to me as token of appreciation, for that child's welfare & education. I came to know that his family isn't financially strong. So I decided this."
