Sparking a fresh row, VHP spokesperson Vinod Bansal has claimed that Qutab Minar was a Hindu structure named 'Vishnu Stambh'. Speaking to news agency ANI, he stated that the Minar was built with materials obtained after demolishing 27 Hindu-Jain temples.
The VHP functionary also demanded that all the demolished temples should be rebuilt. He added that the place must be restored to Hindus so that they can pray there.
Supporting the VHP leader, Sanjeev Newar, a Hindu activist, tweeted, "Stop calling it Qutub Minar. Qutub Minar is Vishnu Stambh - a Hindu architecture. Qutubuddin Aibak was a male slave of Ghori. These people could make minar (tower) of only one type - cut heads of innocents."
In the past, too, social media posts made by Netizens made a similar claim. Some of the claims are said to be valid. In fact, India Today has quoted the Delhi Tourism website in its report, stating that the Minar was built with materials obtained after demolishing Hindu temples at the site after the defeat of Delhi's last Hindu kingdom.
