Veteran actress and wife of actor A.V.M. Rajan, Pushpalatha, passed away in Chennai at the age of 87.
Pushpalatha was a prominent actress in Tamil cinema during the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. She made her debut in 1961 with the film “Kongu Naattu Thangam” and later acted in several films like “Polickaaran Magal,” “Paava Mannippu,” “Aalayamani,” “Vanambadi,” “Aayiram Jenmangal,” and “Kalyanaraman.”
She starred alongside legendary actors such as M.G.R., Sivaji Ganesan, Gemini Ganesan, S.S. Rajendran, Rajinikanth, and Kamal Haasan. During the filming of “Naanum Oru Penn,” she fell in love with actor A.V.M. Rajan, whom she later married.
Eventually, both Pushpalatha and A.V.M. Rajan stepped away from cinema and dedicated themselves to Christian missionary work. They had two daughters, Abirami and Mahalaxmi. Residing in T. Nagar, Chennai, Pushpalatha had been receiving treatment for age-related health issues.
She passed away the night before yesterday. Actors’ association representatives Poochi S. Murugan and Karthi, along with several film industry personalities, paid their respects to her. Her last rites will be held this morning in Royapettah.
