Protests are NOT spreading in India: Amit Shah

Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah has said that the anti-CAA protests are not spreading in India.

"Where are protests spreading to newer areas? They have come down in Assam and other parts of the North-East. They are slowly coming to a halt in Bengal. A couple of violent incidents have taken place in Delhi and they too are subsiding," Shah said in an interview to a TV channel.

Shah added that violent protests at Jamia Milia Islamia University had to be dealt with strongly. "Without police taking action, how do you think will violence be contained?" he asked.

"We have made the new citizenship law keeping in mind the condition of the persecuted minorities of our neighbours whose state religion is Islam," he added.
