V Epiq has become the latest victim of the Andhra Pradesh government’s unsustainably low cinema ticket prices. Located in Sullurpet in the Nellore district, the multiplex has got Asia’s largest screen as well. The three-screen multiplex has now been shut down because it has reportedly not been able to recover even maintenance costs. The multiplex has been forced by authorities to sell a ticket at as low as Rs 60, which is, needless to say, pathetically low.
Reacting to the news, several Netizens are trolling the Jaganmohan Reddy government for its irrational pricing policy. Although the multiplex is co-owned by UV Creations’ Vamsi, the film industry has maintained silence so far on issue.
‘Baahubali’ producer Shobu Yarlagadda is the only celeb to opine on the issue. “Really sad and disheartening to read this (about V Epiq)! So unfortunate! Really hope the Government understands the situation and responds positively! At a time when the film industry & exhibition sector is trying to recover from the devasting effect of COVID pandemic and severe competition from other forms of entertainment like streaming platforms etc., AP Government’s present policy will cause permanent damage to the film industry,” he added.
