With Ram Nath Kovind’s term coming to an end on July 25, the Election Commission of India is going to hold Presidential polls. The election schedule was announced a while ago.
A notification for calling the election will be out on June 15, while the last date for making nominations is June 29. On June 30, the nominations will be scrutinized.
The last date for the withdrawal of nominations is July 2. The polls, if necessary, will be held on July 18. The counting, if necessary, will be held on July 21.
The new President will take oath on July 25.
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar today stated at a presser that a total of 4,809 electors will participate to vote in the Presidential elections. “No political party can issue a whip to its members,” he added.
In all likelihood, the candidate proposed by the BJP and other NDA parties will win the election. This is not to say that it is going to be a cakewalk for the NDA. “The BJP is 1.2 percentage points shy of the 50 percent vote share it needs to select its president,” wrote Times Now in an analysis today.
