The trailer of ‘Penguin’ that has just landed highlights Keerthy Suresh’s bold attempt to transform into a mother of a missing child and she sure brings the character to life with her subtle yet strong performance. Debutante Karthik Easwar has chosen to tackle child abuse and the difference here is that its victim is a male child that’s hardly touched in Tamil cinema. Ooty must be a scary place to live, judging by the recent ‘Ponmagal Vandhaal’ and now this one as its landscapes add that extra eeriness.
The ‘Penguin’ trailer studiously follows all the visual elements that make a psycho-thriller borrowing from the likes of ‘It’, ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ or just take your pick from your Hollywood horror thriller library. The villain seems to walk out straight from the ancient ‘Friday the Thirteenth’ as well. Overall pretty alienating but then the Keerthy Suresh and Karthik Subbaraj factors could be the difference when you get to watch it on Amazon Prime Video from June 19th.
