Congress MP and senior politician Revanth Reddy recently appeared on a Telugu TV channel to bat for his party, which lost all five state assembly elections recently. The Grand Old Party has been wiped out in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Manipur. But Revanth feels that the party is not as weak as it has been made out to be by everyone.
“It’s not true that our party is on a weak wicket. In Uttar Pradesh, NDA won 273 seats, SP won 125 seats. Congress emerged as the third-largest party by winning two seats. BSP is at No. 4 with just one seat. We have won one seat more than BSP,” Revanth said.
The video clip has been widely shared by Netizens, who are mocking Revanth. In 2019, there was this joke in Andhra Pradesh that Jana Sena Party won a seat higher than the parties that won zero seats. Revanth’s argument, if it can be called one, is reminding folks of that joke.
In any case, Revanth’s numbers are convenient. Congress party secured just 2.3% vote share in UP, which is far less than what BSP amassed. It lost deposits in 97% of the seats.
