Days after MS Dhoni announced his retirement, Narendra Modi on Thursday wrote a letter to the legendary cricketer. He was all praise for the former skipper in the letter.
“In your trademark unassuming style, you shared a video that was enough to become a passionate discussion point for the entire nation. One hundred and thirty crore Indians were disappointed but also eternally grateful for all that you have done for Indian cricket,” the Prime Minister says in the letter.
Modi adds that looking at Dhoni just as a sportsperson would be an injustice. “The correct way to assess your impact is as a phenomenon. Rising from humble beginnings in a small town, you burst onto the national scene, made a name for yourself and most importantly made India proud,” Modi says. He makes a special mention of the 2007 T-20 World Cup final match.
The PM conveyed wishes to not just Dhoni but also to his wife and daughter.
