Nagarjuna’s N Convention Center Demolished Amid Encroachment Controversy

In a significant move to protect Hyderabad’s environment and enforce land use regulations, the Telangana government razed the N Convention Center, a prominent venue owned by actor Nagarjuna. The demolition came after years of allegations that the center had encroached upon the Tummidi Kunta pond, a protected water body.

The N Convention Center, located in Madhapur, Hyderabad, had been a subject of controversy since its inception. Environmentalists and local residents had consistently raised concerns about the center’s construction on the pond, which is crucial to the city’s water resources. Despite these protests, the center continued to operate until the Telangana government decided to take action.

The demolition was carried out by HYDRA, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency, which was established by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. The agency has been tasked with protecting government assets, including water bodies, and responding to disasters.

Prior to the demolition, HYDRA had issued notices to the N Convention Center’s owners, informing them of their intention to raze the structure. On the day of the demolition, heavy machinery and police personnel were deployed to the site. The center’s road access was blocked off, underscoring the seriousness of the situation.

 Chief Minister Revanth Reddy went on record saying  “The demolition of the N Convention Center is a clear message that we will not tolerate illegal land use and encroachment on our natural resources. Protecting the environment is a top priority for our government.”
