A man from the Indian state of Mizoram, identified as Ziona Chana and believed to be the head of the world's largest family with 38 wives and 89 children, passed away at the age of 76 at a Aizawl-based hospital on Sunday afternoon.
The man was reportedly suffering from diabetes and hypertension and his condition had been deteriorating over the past few days. "He was undergoing treatment at his residence in Baktawng village for three days. But his condition deteriorated and he was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead," the hospital Director was reportedly quoted as saying. The 100 plus member family of Ziona Chana lives in a four-storied house with over 100 rooms in the mountainous village of Baktawng Tlangnuam. The village was apparently a tourist attraction as well because of the family.
Expressing his condolences, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga tweeted on social media, "With heavy heart, #Mizoram bid farewell to Mr. Zion-a (76), believed to head the world’s largest family, with 38 wives and 89 children.Mizoram and his village at Baktawng Tlangnuam has become a major tourist attraction in the state because of the family.
