Soon after the migrant crisis in Mumbai’s Bandra on Tuesday, actor-politician Kamal Haasan took to Twitter and criticized the Centre, describing the Modi government as “balcony government”. He had used the term for the first time in his open letter to the Prime Minister earlier this month.
“All the balcony people take a long and hard look at the ground. First it was Delhi, now Mumbai. The migrant crisis is a time bomb that must be defused before it becomes a crisis bigger than Corona. Balcony government must keep their eyes on what’s happening on the ground too,” the ‘Indian-2’ actor wrote.
In taking a swipe at the government, Kamal hasn’t given any constructive suggestion. Mumbai has got more than 1,500 COVID-19 cases. What would have been the pros and cons of allowing migrant workers to leave the city? Administrative decisions involve the weighing of such complex matters. It’s not as easy as writing a hot-air tweet.
