Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Mersal’ directed by Atlee not only became a high commercial grosser but also created national sensation with some dialogues that crticised the centre’s GST scheme. However, many pointed fingers at the film’s story stating that it was lifted off from Kamal Hassan’s ‘Apoorva Sagodharargal’ and Rajinikanth’s ‘Moondru Mugam’.

In response to a complaint filed by Five Star Films which owns the rights for ‘Moondru Mugam’, the Tamil Film Producers Council has sent a notice to Atlee pertaining to this. On the other hand, it is well known  that Kamal Hassan himself who had produced and starred in ‘Apoorva Sagodharargal’ has appreciated Vijay and Atlee after watching ‘Mersal’.

However, we will have to wait to know how the young filmmaker will respond to the issue which would fall under the ambit of plagiarism. Stay tuned to this page for the latest updates regarding the issue.
