Mega Breaking: Article 370 proposed to be revoked

Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said in Rajya Sabha that the controversial Article 370 would be revoked.  Jammu & Kashmir will be a Union Territory with legislature.  “Keeping in view the prevailing internal security situation, fuelled by cross border terrorism in the existing state of J&K, a separate UK for J&K is being created,” the Government today said.  

Furthermore, Ladakh (a region in J&K) would be made a Union Territory without a legislature.  “Ladakh is a sparsely populated large area with difficult terrain.  There has been a long-pending demand of people of Ladakh to give it the status of a UT to enable them to realize their aspirations,” the government notification said.

What about Article 35A?  “Since #Article 35A stems from #Article370 in an annexure to Constitution, it too will become invalid,” says Minhaz Merchant, an analyst.
