Margot Robbie, in addition to starring in the upcoming film Barbie, is also one of its producers. During an interview with Collider, she confessed to being quite enthusiastic about the project.
"I believe the studios have thrived when they take bold ideas and pair them with visionary directors," she explained, referring to her pitch to green-light the film with Oscar-nominee Greta Gerwig.
Robbie then illustrated her point by citing examples like "dinosaurs and [Steven] Spielberg" and other successful film collaborations over the years. She confidently asserted that Barbie with Greta Gerwig would be equally successful, even suggesting it could make a billion dollars, though she admitted she might have been exaggerating a bit.
However, despite her passion for the project, Robbie was open and understanding when it came to casting decisions. She made it clear to the director that she wouldn't be offended if someone else was chosen for the role. She didn't want to pressure Gerwig into casting her just because she was a producer.
Gerwig, on the other hand, had a different idea. She insisted on writing the role specifically for Robbie, stating that she wanted her in the part. After a bit of playful back-and-forth, Robbie eventually accepted the offer, and both her and Ryan Gosling's names were included in the script from the beginning, with Robbie playing Barbie and Gosling as Ken.
