Due to the lockdown and non-availability of liquor, hundreds of alcoholics are reportedly suffering from withdrawal symptoms. As many as 100 patients have visited the Institute of Mental Health at Hyderabad's Erragadda with symptoms like disillusionment, vomiting, and chills in the last two days.
As per a New Indian Express report, as many as 45 of them have been admitted to the hospital.
In Kerala, seven tipplers have committed suicide in the last few days because they couldn't get their dose of liquor. "Suicides have been reported from across districts including Ernakulam, Kollam, Thiruvananthapuram and Thrissur," a report published by Deccan Chronicle says.
While Kerala is supplying liquor to those with doctor prescriptions, several experts reveal that it's hardly the right thing to do. They recommend hospitalization, hydration and administration of detoxins to patients.
