Playback singer and Bharat Ratna recipient Lata Mangeshkar is no more. She breathed her last today at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital at the age of 92. It's known that the legendary singer was admitted to the ICU on Tuesday after she contracted COVID-19.
Besides being a recipient of the highest civilian honour, Lata also received Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
The nation is mourning the loss of the iconic singer, whose voice is described by her fans and music lovers as transcendental. In his condolence tweet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he is anguished beyond words. "The kind and caring Lata Didi has left us. She leaves a void in our nation that cannot be filled. The coming generations will remember her as a stalwart of Indian culture, whose melodious voice had an unparalleled ability to mesmerise people," the PM wrote.
Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar tweeted, "Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchaan Hain, Gar Yaad Rahe…and how can one forget such a voice! Deeply saddened by the passing away of Lata Mangeshkar ji, my sincere condolences and prayers."
