Legendary singer Vani Jayaram passed away earlier today. This news has shocked the music fans across the country. She is a renowned playback singer in South Indian cinema and has sung thousands of songs in nineteen languages including Tamil.

Vani Jayaram fainted at her home in Nungambakkam, Chennai, and later passed away. Police are said to be investigating her sudden death. Born in vellore, she did playback for over one thousand Indian movies recording over 10,000 songs. She recorded thousands of devotionals and private albums as well.

Vani's career started in 1971 and has spanned over five decades. The Government recently announced Padma Bhushan for her but it is unfortunate she passed away before she could receive the civilian honour. The fans and film fraternity are mourning the renowned playback singer's death.
