Saying that Kashmir is a complicated issue, Donald Trump has suggested that he is ready to mediate between India and Pakistan over it. This statement comes days after India repeated that Kashmir is an internal matter.

The US President said that Kashmir is a religious issue between Hindus and Muslims. “Kashmir is a very complicated place. You have the Hindus, and you have the Muslims, and I wouldn’t say they get along so great," Trump has been quoted saying.

Just earlier in the week, Narendra Modi spoke to Trump over the phone for 30 minutes. This has come under criticism from Asaduddin Owaisi of the AIMIM. "Since the very beginning, we have been saying that Kashmir is a bilateral issue. India has a very consistent stand on this. Then what was the need for PM Modi to call US President Donald Trump and complain about it?" he asked.
