A 24-year-old boy from the Koratagere town in the Tumkur District of Karnataka recorded the video of his suicide on the video-sharing app TikTok as he apparently wanted to experience the "feeling" of death.
The deceased boy, identified as Dhananjay, was allegedly constantly criticized by his mother for not being employed. The boy bought a bottle of pesticide and consumed it before recording his statement on the video that mentioned, "I wanted to have a feel of death and will try to kill myself." He was immediately rushed to a local hospital but died the next day while receiving treatment. This was not the first time the boy had attempted a stunt like that as he had earlier reportedly driven his bike into a tree on purpose, but had sustained with minor injuries. Despite his family members and relatives warning him not to take life-threatening risks, he continued to involve himself in morbid activities, for which he even earned 400 followers on TikTok. He had just gotten married four months ago and had allegedly remained mentally unstable the last few weeks over the coronavirus lockdown.
The police have filed a case of unnatural death. "He drank the pesticide but later panicked thinking that he would die and rode back home. He later called his friend who took him to a hospital on Saturday night," an official reportedly mentioned.
