The video of a shocking incident has surfaced online, where a group of men stand by and watch a friend drown in a quarry pond as they record the same without lending him help.
The incident happened on Friday evening when the men had arrived at the pond for swimming. The video shows one of the men getting inside the water and returning safely, after which 22-year-old Jaffer Ayub, a resident of the Mijguri area of the Kalaburagi district of Karnataka, jumps in. When he almost reaches the surface, he is seen drowning while one of the men lend a hand, but not far enough for Ayub to reach it. It appears as though he doesn’t really try hard to save Ayub, as he withdraws his hand later, while his other friends continue to record the video. People, after watching the video, have expressed their shock at how none of the spectators came to the boy’s rescue despite his apparent struggle.
Ayub was reportedly the sole breadwinner of the family, as his father is an alcoholic. The other men allegedly refused to give statements when police reached them. A case of unnatural death has been registered.
