Leading candidate for the presidential nomination, Vice President Kamala Harris has united Democrats. For Harris' campaign as well as the party, this backing resulted in a notable increase in donations.
NBC News declared on Monday night that most of the pledged convention delegates of the Democratic party had endorsed Harris. NBC projects Harris has the support of 1,492 delegates based on a threshold of 1,976 delegates.
Though not formally the expected nominee yet, Harris's leading position is well-established and no competitor has surfaced to challenge her.
After President Joe Biden declared he would be ending his reelection campaign, Harris and the Democratic party have attracted about $250 million in online donations and large pledges of substantial gifts. Since Biden's departure, ActBlue's fundraising platform has handled $106 million in donations for Democratic candidates.
It is still unknown how this money would be distributed between House and Senate candidates as well as the Harris for President campaign.
Apart from online contributions, a super PAC endorsing the Biden-Harris slate revealed $150 million in significant major contributor pledges to help Harris' campaign over the past 24 hours. Made to Future Forward, these pledges came from many who had been dubious about Biden as the nominee.
Although these commitments are promises until formally recorded, the historic fundraising numbers have electrified Democrats and revitalized their attempts to defeat former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio.
Over 889,000 small-dollar contributors have given to the Harris campaign since Sunday.
Rising momentum of Harris probably had an impact on West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, who lately turned Independent, to stop thinking about contesting Harris for the Democratic candidacy.
Republicans are rushing to modify Trump's campaign plan from beating Biden to running against Harris. Throughout the day, Trump turned his assaults from Biden to Harris.
