Actor Kamal Haasan has addressed the growing controversy surrounding his recent comment that “Kannada was born from Tamil”, made during a promotional event for his upcoming film Thug Life. The statement sparked widespread backlash in Karnataka, with several Kannada organizations threatening to block the film’s release in the state.
Political leaders, including Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, publicly condemned the remark. Some groups and individuals have gone further, demanding a formal apology from the veteran actor.
Speaking to the media today, Kamal Haasan responded:
“This is a democratic country. I believe in law and justice—and above all, in love. I have deep affection for the people of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka.
If I’ve done something wrong, I will definitely apologize. But if I haven’t, I see no reason to. That is my way of life.”
His statement suggests he does not believe an apology is warranted in this instance, though he remains open to one if proven otherwise.
As of now, there’s no indication that Kamal Haasan will issue a formal apology over the matter.
