While the DMK and its alliance partners have been openly critical of actor Vijay’s newly launched political party, Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam, one notable voice has remained neutral—Kamal Haasan. Despite his party, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), being part of the DMK-led alliance, Kamal has chosen not to join in the criticism.
Speaking to reporters at the Chennai airport before departing for Malaysia en route to Dubai for the promotion of Mani Ratnam’s upcoming film Thug Life, Kamal addressed several topics, including his recent nomination to the Rajya Sabha.
Commenting on his parliamentary role, Kamal said, “The impartial voice of Tamils will now echo in Parliament. I will be a voice for the people and an advocate for the rightful demands of Tamil Nadu at the Centre.”
When asked about Vijay’s entry into politics through Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam, Kamal responded thoughtfully: “As the founder of a relatively new party myself, I don’t think it’s right to criticize other emerging parties.”
Kamal’s diplomatic stance has drawn attention, especially as political tensions rise ahead of upcoming elections. His remarks are being seen as a gesture of political maturity and restraint amidst the usual war of words.
