Singer Kalpana’s Daughter Denies Suicide Attempt, Clarifies Overdose Was Accidental

“My mother did not attempt suicide. She accidentally overdosed on sleeping pills. Please do not spread false information and exaggerate the situation,” said the daughter of popular playback singer Kalpana.

Kalpana was found unconscious at her home and rescued by Hyderabad police. She was admitted to a private hospital on Tuesday (March 4) and is undergoing treatment with ventilator support.

There were reports that she attempted suicide due to family disputes with her eldest daughter. However, her daughter denied these claims, stating that her mother is healthy and happy.

Speaking to the media on March 5, she clarified, “My mother has no issues. She is happy and in good health. She is a playback singer, pursuing a Ph.D., and studying LLB, which led to sleep deprivation. As per the doctor’s recommendation, she was taking sleeping pills, but due to stress, she accidentally overdosed. Please do not spread false information.”

She further stated, “Both my parents are happy, and my family is doing well. My mother will recover soon. This is not a suicide attempt; it was an accidental overdose.”

Kalpana lives in a high-rise apartment in Nizampet, Hyderabad. When her apartment remained locked for two days, a security guard alerted other residents. Her phone was also switched off.

Residents informed the police, who broke in and found her unconscious. She was rushed to a private hospital. At the time of the incident, her husband was in Chennai and immediately traveled to Hyderabad upon hearing the news. The police are currently investigating the matter.
