Director Mani Ratnam's 'Kaatru Veliyidai' starring Karthi and Aditi Rao Hydari in lead roles has taken a tremendous opening in Chennai. The romance film set in Kashmir opened to mixed reviews on Friday (April 14) but all the shows including the special morning shows screened on the first three days houseful in 20 theaters across the city. The film has had a total of 368 shows in three days with a phenomenal 95% occupancy.
With this the film has collected a whopping Rs.1,54,53,650 making in the Best ever opening for the hero Karthi as well as director Mani Ratnam in Chennai.
A film collecting above Rs.1.5 crore has been possible only for the film featuring A list heroes. No other film has raked in this much collections in its opening weekend. If 'Kaatru Veliyidai' has made this big an achievement despite the mixed reviews it is only because of the power of Mani Ratnam-A.R.Rahman combo among all sections of audience.
