With Nadia (a tiger at Bronx Zoo in New York) contracting COVID-19, wildlife conservationists in the US and other parts of the world are on alert. In India, the Central Zoo Authority has issued a directive.
“After the confirmation of Covid-19 in a tiger in the Bronx Zoo in New York, the Central Zoo Authority in India has asked zoos to remain on the highest alertness, watch animals on a 24×7 basis, isolate and quarantine sick animals and have the least contact while feeding them,” reports The Leaflet.
Nadia, a 4-year-old Malayan tiger, is the first tiger in the world to test positive for novel coronavirus. It had been showing symptoms for respiratory illness after it got infected by a care-taker in New York. Its two siblings and several lions in the zoo have been put in quarantine.
