At a recent event, renowned music composer Ilaiyaraaja was honored with an award in recognition of his significant contributions to the field of music. While addressing the audience, he also spoke fondly about his deep connection with the city of Coimbatore (Kovai).
Ilaiyaraaja expressed his affection by saying, “There is no place in Coimbatore where my feet haven’t touched. There isn’t a single street in Coimbatore where the sound of my harmonium hasn’t been heard.”
He went on to share that the first harmonium he ever used was made in Coimbatore. He emphasized that he still uses the harmonium purchased from the city for composing music. Reflecting on this relationship, Ilaiyaraaja remarked that it’s difficult to describe in words how close his bond with Coimbatore truly is.
