Unable to take the lockdown anymore, Mohammed Naseeruddin, a 42-year-old man owning a footwear shop in Hyderabad’s Malakpet, on Sunday evening tried to immolate himself outside the CM Camp Office. He was rescued by police and others as he tried to attempt suicide. A can of water was poured on him as an antidote.
He complained of mounting losses and of his inability to pay rents and bear other expenses due to the lockdown. As soon as onlookers rescued the dejected businessman, he broke down talking about his plight.
The incident is just a reminder that a countless number of small businesses are in a state of utter ruin in the country.
