S. Mukuchand Bothra is a popular name in Kollywood as he is one of the biggest financiers of films of all budgets. Bothra had filed a case against director Kasthuri Raja for borrowing around 65 lakhs from him and allegedly assuring that his son Dhanush's father in law Rajinikanth will settle the amount.

Superstar Rajinikanth in his return petition claimed that Bothra was pulling his name in an unconnected case to extort money from him. Bothra, in turn, filed a defamation case against Rajini.

The defamation case came up for hearing today in the Chennai High Court and the Judge Anand Venkatesh dismissed the case in favour of Rajinikanth ruling that statements made during or in a pleading in a civil suit cannot be termed to be a defamatory statement unless the same is struck off by the civil court.
