Singer Chinmayi Sripada has hit out at the Government of India for feting a new award on Varaimuthu, the Kollywood poet-lyricist, whom she had accused of harassing her sexually. The singer said that it's she who has suffered after outing Varaimuthu. On the other hand, the offender has gone on to do big-ticket movies.
"The Defence Minister of India is conferring an honorary degree to lyricist Vairamuthy named by nine women so far for having molested them. Just reiterating - outing KNOWN molesters does NO damage to them. Instead, I got banned from working," she said, referring to her getting banned by the Tamil Dubbing Artists' Union.
"Yes, I know this doctorate is for his prowess in the language which is well established. The way he went on, they might as well add a doctorate for being a serial molester. A year of repeating, Mr Vairamuthu has worked on fantastic multi-star projects, traveled the world, shared the stage with biggies in politics and arts. No attempts made at investigating the complaint," the playback singer added.
