The Hathras rape incident, in which a Dalit woman was raped a few days back, has shocked the nation. Amid wide national outrage, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to take the strictest action against rapists.
The UP CM has now formed a three-member panel to investigate the crime on a fast-track basis. The panel’s brief is to submit a comprehensive report in seven days. A fast-track court will be conducting the trial.
The SIT in the case will be headed by Home Secretary Bhagwan Swaroop, Deputy Inspector General of Police Chandraprakash and an IPS officer.
The victim, who suffered from debilitating injuries, died at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital on Tuesday. The same night, the police cremated her body after reportedly locking up the victim’s family members in their homes.
