Suriya in his recent speech criticized the new education policy of the central government and urged the people to fully read and understand it's positives and negatives. He also pressed the need for the people to protest against the shortcomings in the policy keeping the future of the students in mind.

BJP leader H. Raja has stated that Suriya is instigating violence through his speech. It may be recalled that Raja is particularly known to show his dissent to movie stars with his previous one being against Thalapathy Vijay during the release of 'Mersal'. Netizens are showing their support for Suriya by trolling Raja on social media.

Suriya in his speech also lamented the shortage of teachers in most government schools and questioned how students can prepare for tough exams such as NEET.
