A former under-19 cricketer from West Bengal, who had played league cricket in Bengal, has been arrested by the the economic offences wing of Gurgaon police for allegedly taking Rs 4 lakh from a man and promising to get him a spot as a bowler in one of the IPL teams through his 'connections,'
The accused, identified as Danish Mirza, along with another man, named Anurag, has been held by the police over a month after three other men, Ashutosh Bora, Chitra Bora, and Nitin Jha, were arrested from Le Meridien hotel in Gurgaon after another aspiring cricketer, Anshul Raj, had registered a complaint on August 24 at Sector 50 police station, alleging that the accused men had extorted Rs 10 lakh from him after promising his selection in a state cricket team.
"The probe has found that the arrested duo received about Rs 4 lakh from a player promising him a spot as a bowler in an IPL team. Danish claimed that he had played as a net bowler for a team and had connections. It is suspected that he has duped several young cricketers using this modus operandi. The arrested duo had been in touch with prime accused Ashutosh Bora," a police official was quoted as saying by a news agency.
