Former Indian Administrative Services officer Shah Faesal of Kashmir cadre proposed the Nobel Peace Prize for Pakistan PM Imran Khan after he released Indian Air Force pilot Abhinandan Varthaman on Friday.
Stating that Imran Khan’s decision to release Wing Commander Abhinandan had de-escalated hostilities between Pakistan and India, a resolution was submitted in the Pakistan Parliament on Saturday to endorse the Prime Minister for the Nobel Peace Prize. Defending the campaign, Shah Faesel posted a tweet claiming that the Prize would allow Imran Khan to foster the relationship between India and Pakistan.
“A Nobel Peace Prize to @ImranKhanPTI could drastically change the way Pakistan operates in the South Asia region. IK has already raised the bar for leadership in the region, and the Prize could encourage him to further nurture the India-Pak relationship. He deserves the prize,” Shah Faesal’s post read. However, his post earned a lot of criticism from people.
Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman was captured by the Pakistani Army on Wednesday after his MiG-21 Bison fighter jet was hit by Pakistan Air Force jets near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. He was returned to India at the Attari-Wagah border upon PM Imran Khan’s order at 9.15 pm on Friday night.
