Former England cricketer and commentator Robin Jackman dies at 75

Former England cricketer and commentator for South African cricket Robin Jackman has passed away at the age of 75 on December 25.

ICC announced the news of Robin Jackman on social media. “We are saddened to learn about the death of legendary commentator and former England bowler Robin Jackman, who has passed away aged 75. The thoughts of the cricketing world go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.” Jackman was reportedly diagnosed with throat cancer in 2012 and had undergone two operations to remove malignant tumours from his vocal cords. Born in Shimla, India in 1945, Robin Jackman played in four Test matches and 15 One Day Internationals for the England cricket team between 1974 and 1983. A seam bowler, the cricketer’s Test debut came at the age of 35. Cricket fans and players across the world paid their tributes to Jackman.

Fellow commentator and former New Zealand bowler Danny Morrison tweeted, “Awoken to the sad news of dear buddy & comms colleague Robin Jackman passing… Blessed to have had wonderful times shared ‘Jackers’. RIP Rob.” English commentator Ian Brotham said, “Today only gets worse….Robin Jackman passed away our thoughts are with Vonny and the family so sad …….see you at the watering hole in the sky Jackers. RIP X,” while Pakistani commentator Ramiz Raja wrote, “Pained and saddened at the passing of Robin Jackman. A good man and a wonderful commentator. #RIPJackers.”
