Official! First Simbu film to enter the prestigious 100c club – Producer reveals

‘Maanadu’, which was released in November 2021, marked the comeback of Simbu in Tamil cinema. Simbu delivered a power-packed performance after a rough patch in his cinema career and personal life. Directed by Venkat Prabhu, STR and SJ Suryah played the lead roles in ‘Maanadu’ with music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

The movie, produced by V House Productions, dealt with a fresh subject and was described as “India’s first political time loop movie”. ‘Maanadu’ follows the characters of Simbu and SJ Suryah who are stuck in a time loop built around a political conspiracy that forces them to relive a certain day again and again until the protagonist succeeds.

While ‘Maanadu’ enjoyed high acclaim from the critics, it also had a phenomenal run at the box office. Yesterday, the film’s producer Suresh Kamatchi took to his Twitter handle to officially announce that ‘Maanadu’ has entered the elite 100c club. Notably, it is the first Simbu movie to gross more than Rs 100 crores at the box office.

Suresh Kamatchi tweeted, “Glad to announce that our #Maanaadu has collected 117Cr at Worldwide Box Office. It becomes this year’s Mega Blockbuster. I thank @SilambarasanTR @vp_offl @iam_SJSuryah @thisisysr @kalyanipriyan” (sic). ‘Maanadu’ is announced as the mega-blockbuster of 2021 by the producer himself.
