Fearsome: ‘Sea levels on Indian coast could rise by 2.8 feet’

The government has told Lok Sabha that sea levels on India’s west coast could rise up to 2.8 feet by the end of the 21st century.  This is going to arise as a direct consequence of Global Warming.

As per a study conducted by the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services, the Mumbai coast, Gujarat’s Khambat and Kutch regions, and the Konkan coast will be most affected by the impending sea-level rise.

Among the deltas, Ganga, Krishna, Godavari, Cauvery and Mahanandi are vulnerable.  This will have immense bearing on India’s food security.

Global Warming is expected to lead to erratic rainfalls, increased flooding in some parts of India, among others.
