Emergency Lawsuit Filed in Chennai High Court Seeking Censor Certificate for ‘Jana Nayagan’

As Actor Vijay prepares to exit the film industry to engage in full-time politics, his final film, ‘Jana Nayagan’, has generated massive expectations. With the film scheduled for release on January 9, 2026, ahead of the Pongal festival, the production house has approached the court following delays in obtaining a censor certificate.

The film’s production company, KVN Productions, has filed this emergency petition in the Chennai High Court.The petition states that despite applying for certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), there has been an undue delay in issuing the certificate.

With only a few days left until the release, the production team noted that they can only proceed with overseas shipping and theater bookings once the censor certificate is secured.The production side has requested the court to take up the case for an urgent hearing in view of the scheduled release date.

Since ‘Jana Nayagan’ is a political actioner, it is rumored that the Censor Board is scrutinizing the film’s dialogues and scenes with extra care. Given that this is Vijay’s first film following his active entry into politics, there is significant public debate regarding potential political critiques within the movie.
