'Dune' is Hollywood's cinematic adaptation of the 1965 epic science fiction novel of the same name by Frank Herbert. The first part of the film was released on October 22 simultaneously in cinema halls and HBO Max. The magnum opus motion picture gained rave critical acclaim as well as commercial reception.
Dune: Part One is highly appreciated as a "visual extravaganza". The movie is phenomenal not only in visuals but also in the music score by Hans Zimmer and the sound design works. The production design and casting were also breathtaking. After Hollywood failed at a few attempts of adapting the novel, this version by Denis Villeneuve managed to garner success all over.
This new adaptation of Dune has limited itself to covering roughly the first half of the book. We had already updated you that the sequel is uncertain as it cost a fortune to make Dune and the makers wanted to be sure that the film collects big numbers amid the ongoing pandemic. Now, Legendary Films and Warner Bros Pictures have lit the green signal for the sequel.
The first Dune has made a whopping $40 million in the theatrical run in the opening weekend surpassing the $35.1 million opening of Godzilla Vs. Kong despite being released concurrently on HBO Max. Worldwide, it made $87.5 million this weekend, bringing its current total revenue to $220.7 million. The venture's success has ensured the sequel and Denis Villeneuve is much excited about it.
Denis said that Dune is his dream project and thanked the cast & crew. His statement read, "I just received news from Legendary that we are officially moving forward with Dune: Part Two. It was a dream of mine to adapt Frank Herbert’s Dune, and I have the fans, the cast, and crew, Legendary and Warner Bros. to thank for supporting this dream. This is only the beginning."
The sequel is officially announced with a theatrical release date of October 23, 2023. Denis Villeneuve says Dune 2 will have much more action and less talking than the first film, and that it will be a cinematic blast to create. Dune starred Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides and featured a sprawling cast that included Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, Josh Brolin and Zendaya.
In the first part, the premise for a larger picture has been set up with Paul Atreides realising that his life's path resides with the Fremen people of Arrakis. The second half of the book focuses heavily on Paul's journey with the Fremen on Arrakis, embracing his destiny as "Kwisatz Haderach" and leading them in the ultimate battle to reclaim the planet and the throne of the Imperial empire. Stay Tuned.
This is only the beginning...
