The United States' President Donald Trump met with Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan at the White House on July 22, where he made a claim that PM Narendra Modi had sought Trump's mediation to resolve the Kashmir issue and had even stated that he received a request from Modi to do so in a recent meeting with him. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar, however, refuted Trump's claims and stated in the Rajya Sabha that no such request was made by the PM.
Trump offered to mediate on the Kashmir issue yet again and stated that he will do the best he can to help resolve the matter. While reiterating his phone conversation with PM Modi and Pakistan PM Imran Khan to reporters, Trump claimed that the issue had a lot to do with religion. He further added, "You have the Hindus and the Muslims and I would say they wouldn't get along so great. "Spoke to my two good friends, Prime Minister Modi of India, and Prime Minister Khan of Pakistan, regarding Trade, Strategic Partnerships and, most importantly, for India and Pakistan to work towards reducing tensions in Kashmir."
