DMK’s working president M.K. Stalin has said that the DMK would join hands with farmers across the State in staging protests against the gas pipeline-laying work undertaken by public sector Gas Authority of India Ltd. (GAIL).
“Farmers have been protesting hard against laying pipelines by GAIL, to supply cooking gas to Karnataka, through the agricultural fields of Coimbatore, Tirupur, Namakkal, Dharmapuri, Erode, Salem and Krishnagiri Districts. They have fears that this project would be destroying their very livelihood and would spell doom for the days to come.
“The minority AIADMK Government, which has already betrayed the people’s interests badly in NEET, Cauvery Management Board, etc., should no more be in a state of slumber and wake up to take fruitful action.
“Keeping the people’s interests in view, the State should rigorously take up the issue with the Centre to abandon this project,” Stalin said in his statement. He also added that in case this demand is not met, the DMK would take to the field in allying with farmers in all the 7 Districts and staging huge demonstrations.
