Shiv Kumar, a 43 year old disabled man from Delhi borrows money from his friends and relatives to pay alimony to his able-bodied wife. Yes, you read that right. While there has been abundant awareness about women’s rights and safety in the country, men also sometimes seem to be at the receiving end.
Shiv Kumar was a newspaper distributor before an accident where his two-wheeler was hit by a bus leaving him permanently disabled. Suffering head injuries Shiv Kumar was also bed-ridden for almost a year. Now, Shiv Kumar is also crowdfunding to get Rs.5 lakh which he needs to pay as alimony to his wife so their divorce case could be settled.
Reportedly, Shiv’s wife had left him on the same day of the accident after doctors opined that his condition was critical and he may not live. In addition to this, Shiv and his family were even accused of domestic violence charges. Shiv was asked to pay a maintenance of Rs.4000 to his wife however as he has no job or source of income he was sent to Tihar jail thrice. Hence, Shiv’s crowdfunding attempt.
