Former Tamil Nadu BJP leader Annamalai recently shared a surprising and heartfelt revelation during a public event—he was college mates with renowned Tamil film director Desingu Periyasamy, best known for the hit film Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal.
Recalling their college days, Annamalai said, “Desingu Periyasamy and I were close friends during college. While I studied engineering, he pursued computer technology. We were both part of the same drama group and shared a deep love for the arts.”
Annamalai humorously added, “In exam halls, while others would flip through pages to answer questions, Desingu never did—because he usually ended up with the lowest marks! His focus was always more on cinema than academics. That passion is what drove him to become a successful filmmaker today.”
He went on to highlight the broader message behind the story: “Success doesn’t come overnight. It often takes 20 to 25 years of hard work, perseverance, and overcoming setbacks. If you experience failure by the age of 30, consider yourself fortunate—because failure is the best teacher.”
Annamalai’s candid reflection not only gave fans a rare glimpse into the director’s early life but also delivered a powerful message about patience, resilience, and the long journey toward success.
